Pretty in Velvet was founded in 2006 by Kage Hopkins to be a melting pot many different style of music.  Performing in other bands over the years (Coven of Hate, Murder in the Dark, and Scott Crawford) and sharing the stage with the likes of the Serpenteens, Get Precious, The Lost Patrol, and Strange Things Done in the Midnight Sun, Pretty in Velvet encompasses 80’s new wave (Gary Numan, Information Society) with a bit of electro ( Mesh, Devision, Assemblage 23) and old school rock (Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne) combining dark romantic lyrics and vocals, metal ripping guitars, ambient synths, and punk style drumming and creates a unique sound of it’s own. Reminding people of bands such as The Faint, She Wants Revenge, and the like.

    Based in, of all places, New Jersey, The band has gone through a lot of changes. Starting from a single to a trio and back again, the band's goal was to incorporate all the styles they loved into a hard to explain music style album rocking enough to move you on a dance floor but catchy enough to make you unwittingly hum their tunes for weeks on end.  That is our music.
